Club Information and History
Our club has a long and illustrious history. The original club Langworthy, started in 1934 as an open age side. Then in the 1950’s a youth team was formed. In 1957 Langworthy was one of the first amateur sides to tour France a tradition that we still carry on to this day.
During the 1990’s there was an internal dispute and the open age side and the youth section split up. The youth section became Langworthy Reds ARLFC.
The club has grown and developed over the years and now has teams ranging from under 8’s right through to Open Age with over four hundred registered players.
The clubhouse is The Old Police Stables, Oakwood Park, Swinton; there are two full size pitches and a mini pitch. Due to the hard work and dedication of the club members all our facilities, games room, changing rooms, showers etc, continue to improve.
All team coaches hold BARLA (British Amateur Rugby League Association) qualifications and give their time freely to develop the confidence and skills of the young people playing for the club. Every coach and volunteer is CRB police checked.
During Langworthy Reds existence, players have been selected for trials for Great Britain squads, to represent Salford Town team, Lancashire and North West Counties teams and others have signed for Salford Reds, Rochdale and Oldham.
The club continues its long established tradition of an annual exchange trip with a French Rugby League Club. We have in recent years forged an ongoing sporting links with ‘SOA Avignon’, this exchange has become the highlight of the year for the U15s / U16’s, and for the club as a whole, when SOA Avignon visit us.
Langworthy Reds prides itself on being family club, where everyone is made to feel welcome and accepted in the spirit of sport.
